WhatsApp’s ‘Disappearing Messages’ Feature Rolling Out From Nov 2020

Whatsapp New Feature

After providing insight on how the Whatsapp Disappearing Messages Feature will work once rolled out, WhatsApp on Thursday finally launched these amazing features with a time limit of seven days before the message disappears automatically once turned on.

This WhatsApp amazing feature is available for both individual chats as well as group chats.

However, in group chats, the group admins will be able to enable or disable the WhatsApp Disappearing Messages in group chats.

The Disappearing Messages feature is now official and will be rolled out to over 2billion plus users during this month, Nov 2020.

What to expect?

According to WhatsApp, the hope of this new feature is “to make conversations on WhatsApp feel as close to in-person as possible, which means they shouldn’t have to stick around forever”.

“That’s why we’re excited to introduce the option to use disappearing messages on WhatsApp. When the ‘disappearing messages’ feature is turned on, new messages sent to a chat will disappear after 7 days, helping the conversation feel lighter and more private,” it said in a statement.

Taking to Twitter, WhatsApp announced the launch of its amazing feature, highlighting what its users should expect…

“Because not all messages need to stick around forever.”

“We’re starting with seven days because we think it offers peace of mind that conversations aren’t permanent while remaining practical so you don’t forget what you were chatting about. The shopping list or store address you received a few days ago will be there while you need it, and then disappear after you don’t,” it explained.

The new Disappearing Messages feature will be available on all WhatsApp-supported devices including Android, iOS, and Linux-based KaiOS devices, along with WhatsApp Web and Desktop platforms, before the end of this month.

Earlier, WhatsApp, on its FAQ page, had a full rundown on how the ‘Disappearing Messages’ Feature will work once enabled.

>When the Whatsapp Disappearing Messages are enabled on your Whatsapp account, new messages sent in the individual or group chat will disappear after seven (7) days.

>This feature doesn’t just delete the messages and media on individual chats, it also automatically wipes the messages and media on your contact’s devices too. Just like when you want to ‘delete Whatsapp’ message for everyone.

>This 7-days duration starts from when you open or read the message, and not when it was sent.

>Disappearing messages will also wipe out photos, videos, and other files after seven days, and while messages will disappear for both parties it’s still possible to take screenshots or just simply copy messages before they are automatically deleted.

>If a user doesn’t open WhatsApp in the seven-day period, the message might disappear. However, the preview of the message will still be displayed in notifications until WhatsApp is opened.

>When you reply to a message, the initial message is quoted. If you reply to a disappearing message, the quoted text might remain in the chat even after the main text has disappeared.

>If a disappearing message is forwarded to a Whatsapp user with a disabled disappearing message, the message won’t disappear in the forwarded chat.

The important thing to note before using this feature

An important thing to note here is that once the Disappearing Messages feature is turned on, there, however, is no option of customizing the time frame after which the messages will be deleted.

If you can’t control this Whatsapp new feature, please do not enable it. When messages and documents are automatically deleted, you might not be able to retrieve them. So, use this feature with caution.
